Diocesan priest no more

PANAJI

Fr Clifton Fernandes (47), a diocesan priest on the staff at Our Lady of Snows Church Raia, died on Saturday evening.

Hailing from Cuncolim, he was described as a dynamic and prayerful person who was dedicated, caring and helping the people.

The funeral rites will take place at Our Lady of Piety Chapel, Panzorcone on February 8 at 3.30 pm.

He served in different places across the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, as Assistant Priest at Sao Jose de Areal, St Andrew’s Church (Vasco), Holy Trinity Church (Benaulim), Chaplain at Mount Carmel (Curtorim) and finally as Priest on the Staff at the Raia Church.

Chicalim Parish Priest Fr Bolmax Pereira, who was in the seminary along with the late Fr Clifton Fernandes, said: “One striking thing about him was that he was a dedicated priest in pastoral service, ready to reach out to anyone in need in spite of his ill-health.”

“I have seen him even serving an older priest in his sickness when both of them were posted in that same parish. He was inspirational in serving other sick people even though he himself had been been ailing.”
