Villagers residing in the hilly areas of Podla ward of Verlem in Sanguem taluka have demanded immediate repairs and replacement of around seven electricity poles in the village which are tilted on one side.
Expressing fears that the poles could fall due to bad weather, the villagers have appealed to the electricity department to replace the poles before the monsoon.
Panchayat Member Ashok Gaonkar informed that the villagers over the last few months have been frequently requesting authorities to replace the damaged poles and to get electricity cables passing over residential houses shifted at the earliest.
“The Electricity Department even conducted a survey of the damaged poles some months back but no desired action is taken till date,” said Gaonkar.
“Few days ago, I once again submitted a detailed report of the damaged electricity poles in the village to the Electricity Department and it has assured the panchayat of undertaking the repair work at the earliest.”
“Due to the damaged poles, live electricity wires which pass over residential houses are now dangerously low and are virtually within the reach of the people if they climb the rooftop of their houses for any repairs,” said Gaonkar.
Given the imminent danger to villagers due to the low hanging wires and the tilted electricity poles which have no support, the villagers have appealed to authorities to replace the poles before the next monsoon.
