The Goa State Commission for Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday issued notices to the District Magistrate, Old Goa Police and the Child Welfare Committees calling for a detailed report into the death of a juvenile due to burn injuries at Old Goa-based home run by a missionary.
The notices to the North Goa District Magistrate, Chairperson of the CWC North and South and the Police Inspector, Old Goa seek a detailed report on the matter and action taken report to be submitted on or before February 21, 2023.
Taking suo-motu cognizance of the matter, the commission noted that the incident points to a violation of Section 7 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, which states the protection of persons with disabilities from abuse, aggression, and exploitation.
The seven-year-old girl died of 79 per cent burn injuries after she fell in a hot water bucket at the institute’s Training-cum-Production Centre for Children with Disabilities on Sunday evening. The juvenile was among other children who were allegedly left unattended to when she accidentally fell in the hot bucket.
On Wednesday, the CWC North Goa and the District Child Protection Unit held an inspection of the accident site. Meanwhile, the police handed over the body to her parents after a post-mortem.
