Persons with disabilities were at the receiving end of the system at the Margao Municipal building yet again. If the disabled find no easy access to the over century old heritage Margao Municipal building with no provision for a lift, persons for disabilities now find no parking space for them in front of the MMC building.
Reason. Though a board is being prominently put up at the parking lot at the entrance to the Municipal building, the area is always parked with two wheelers.
A disabled person Shane Vaz, who had been doing the rounds of the Civic body for his official work, on Tuesday decided to take the MMC staff manning the parking lot to task. Agitated after finding no space at the parking space reserved for the disabled, Vaz called up the Margao police at the site and requested them to challan the two-wheelers parked at the reserved slot.
The MMC staffers, manning the parking lot were seen running helter skelter to make space for his two-wheeler, but in vain.
“This is nonsense. It’s now around 10 years since the parking slot was notified for the disabled, but we find parking of vehicles everyday. Are all those who are parking the vehicles in the reserved slot disabled”, he demanded to know.
He pointed out that the disabled have to often come to the Civic body are the officials make them run around five-six times. “We have to run around because of their mistakes. But, when we come to the Municipal building, the place reserved for the disabled is always parked with two-wheelers”, he said.
