Simmering discontentment in the ruling BJP over the constitution of the general Council of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao has come out in the open again.
Margao Municipal councillor Sidhanth Gadekar questioned the logic of inducting two MMC councillors on the panel and ignoring him, despite his close association with art and culture over the last 10 years.
BJP Margao mandal general secretary Ketan Kurtarkar, brother of councillor Dr Sushanta also hit out at the constitution of the RB general council for not taking the councillors into confidence, saying the powers that be only need the councillors at the time of raising hands at the civic body.
Welcoming the appointment of film maker, Rajendra Talak as the new chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Gadekar said Talak is the perfect person to head the institution given his long association with art and culture.
Addressing the media, councillor Sidhanth Gadekar, however, questioned the rationale of inducting two MMC councillors on the panel while leaving people with proven track record in the field of art and culture out of Ravindra Bhavan. “I am also a councillor and I am from the field of art and culture, but nobody asked whether I would be willing to be a member of the panel. I have a dancing academy and I have won gold medal while representing Goa before going to the USA,” he said.
He added: “When we have the knowledge of art and culture and aware of the shortcomings inside the Ravindra Bhavan concerning the stage infected with pests and broken chairs, we have not been considered on the panel.”
Demanding to know why councillors with knowledge of art and culture have been kept out of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Gadekar wondered whether the powers that be appointed the members aimed at strengthening their political relations when the appointees have no knowledge of art and culture.
