While some taxi drivers operated the taxis, some are reportedly removed from the job for raising objections to the taxi owners, who are operating without uniform.
According to sources at the airport, the logjam between the taxi drivers and the Union continued for the second day over the dress code.
Sources said some taxi drivers, who spoke to the media that the owners carrying out business without wearing uniform, were removed from the job.
“Some taxi drivers stitched new white uniforms, while others who could not afford refrained from carrying out their regular business at the airport,” said the source.
When contacted, Union leader Sainath Salgaokar said most of the drivers, who had reported with khaki uniform on Thursday, reported in white uniform and carried out business on Friday.
When asked whether any driver who spoke to the media that the taxi owners carrying out business without following the dress code
are sacked from the job, Salgaokar feigned ignorance and said he was not aware of it.
To another query that the taxi owners are carrying out business without following dress code and when pointed to some at the taxi counter, Salgaokar declined to
comment.
It may be recalled that about 100 taxi drivers attached to the United Taximan’s Union at the airport were prevented by the union from transporting passengers to their destinations over the dispute of dress code.
