The meeting, which will be held on June 5 at 11 am in the District Collectorate, South, is expected to be attended by officials of the PWD and Collectorate officials. Principal of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, besides Chairman of Goa Civic and Consumer Action network have been invited for the meeting.
The Collector has made it amply clear that the concerned authorities should remain present in person for the meeting and not to depute their subordinate staff.
The meeting has been apparently called after GOACAN had dashed off a letter to the District Collector stating the problems and hardships faced by the student community due to water-logging at the subway, especially during the monsoons.
In fact, GOACAN convenor Roland Martins has drawn the attention of the District Collectorate to the inconveniences faced by the student community in particular and the public at large, saying that the problems related to the Comba subway must be brought under the purview of the Disaster Management Authority if a long term solution is to be found and to also protect life and property.
Martins recalled that some years ago due to flooding during the monsoon, the students who were being transported could not use the Comba subway and were then dropped at the railway crossing. This resulted in the death of a girl student while crossing the railway tracks.
A fortnight ago, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai had inspected the subway along with PWD roads, sewerage and buildings and directions were issued to bring around a turnaround before the commencement of the new academic year.
While the PWD has whitewashed the subway and the roads divisions repairing the road, there’s still no solution to the sewage water flow.
