There was no resistance to the anti-encroachment drive, but discussions ensued between the officials and the vendors, with the PDA advising the vendors to call on the PDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar, if they have anything to say on the matter.
PDA workers went about clearing the unauthorised business activity in the market, including the sale of musical CDs and belts, besides removing the encroachments. The vendors were warned of stern action if they display their products, including fruits and vegetables, along the market passages.
SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar informed that there was no resistance to the drive, adding that it will be intensified in the market from next week. “If they have any claim or any other issue, let the individual vendors approach me. We were here to solve their grievances,” he said, but asserted that the PDA will not entertain any encroachments or illegal activity in the market.
The TCP Minister had on Thursday warned the vendors to clear the encroachments from the passages before the PDA embarked on a drive to keep the passages clean and hygienic. He has issued directions to the PDA to immediately shut down the office and a food stall running inside the vegetable market.
