Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) will celebrate the 112th birth anniversary of the renowned Konkani writer Reginald Fernandes on Friday at St. Anthony’s Church Hall, Siolim, at 4 pm.
On the occasion, DKA will release the reprinted editions of Reginald Fernandes’ novels ‘Arabeska’ and ‘Zorzorro’.
Chief Guest for the celebration will be GSIDC Chairperson and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, while the programme will be graced by the presence of Salvador Fernandes, son of Reginald Fernandes, and DKA President Fr Myron Jeson Barreto.
A group of singers comprising Anthony San, Luci Pereira, Akishia Fernandes, Anora Pereira, and Joyd Antao will present songs composed by Reginald Fernandes.
Reginald Fernandes was born in the village of Siolim on June 14, 1914. Though less familiar to the younger generation today, he remains one of Goa’s finest and most prolific Roman Konkani writers.
Popularly known as Romanxincho Patxai, he authored more than 150 novels and made an immense contribution to the growth and preservation of Konkani literature.
His life and works continue to inspire efforts to promote and protect the Konkani language and literary heritage. Besides being an outstanding writer, he was also a gifted musician and composer whose songs enriched Goa’s cultural heritage.
