Making a fervent plea to the people not to panic over the coronavirus, South Goa district Collector, Ajit Roy on Thursday said that maintaining good personal hygiene should suffice to control the spread of the virus instead of creating a panicky situation over public gatherings.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Roy said people should not panic and continue with the normal life. “As long as there are no positive cases, there should not be any problem on large gatherings,” he said.

The district Collector said Goa is fortunate that not a single positive case of coronavirus has been reported in the state. ‘This has been made possible because of the proactive steps taken by the administration, including the surveillance system and mass awareness exercise taken up by the stakeholders such as the BDOs and Chief officers’, he said.
To a question, the Collector said people should be made aware of the fact that they should report to the health authorities if they have symptoms of normal flu, including respiratory problem. “We are fortunate that not a single positive case of coronavirus has been reported in the state”, he added.
The health authorities, including Hospicio Medical Superintendent, Dr Ira Almeida explained the steps taken by the hospital to meet any situation.
