Stating that the legacy of the first CM Dayanand Bandodkar on mundkarial rights and education has to be carried forward, Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo on Thursday said pending mundkarial and tenancy cases have to be completed in a time-bound manner.
“There should be a clear-cut direction to mamlatdars, deputy collectors and collectors that cases on mundkarial and tenancy rights have to be decided within certain time. You take one or one-and-a-half year, but don’t take 20 years. I will speak to the chief minister after the code of conduct ends,” Lobo said.
The waste management minister was speaking after garlanding the statue of late CM Dayanand Bandodkar in Calangute while commemorating his birth anniversary. Calangute Sarpanch Francisco Rodrigues and panch members of Calangute, Candolim and Arpora-Nagao were also present.
Continuing, Lobo also stressed on need to bring an amendment to mundkar and tenancy act in order to hasten the pace to redress the issue.
“What amendment has to be brought to the rule has to be brought. Otherwise, the very purpose of our late CM’s vision “‘kashal tachi zamin…’ “ will perish. There is need to fast track these cases and find a solution to the issue,” he said.
According to the waste management minister, the landlords haul up the mundkars to High Court where they (mundkars) fail for lack of resources to fight the case.
Lobo said the government has done a lot in the education field but more needed to be done especially in the higher education.
