Chicalim Panchayat Sarpanch Seby Pereira has appealed to residents not to post Covid-related death messages on social media.
Speaking to reporters, Pereira said the request was made to people in order to cut out the negativity of the disease which could instil fear in the minds of hundreds who are on the way to recovery after testing positive.
"This is a very serious Covid spike and we are also losing our near and dear ones. We have noticed people posting about people succumbing to Covid-19 and such RIP messages are going viral along with the deceased person’s photo on various social media platforms.”
“I understand the pain of the bereaved family, but besides these people, there are others who may have never have known the deceased and they too share such posts which is not right," said Pereira.
The sarpanch said such posts also create panic among other Covid patients who are on road to recovery after testing positive and are under home isolation.
“Such Covid-related death messages could lead to depression among Covid patients, affecting their chances of fighting against the disease.”
“As sarpanch and a responsible villager of Chicalim, I want to humbly request all our villagers not to post any RIP messages of people who have died of Covid. Instead, let us give strength and support to Covid patients to be strong to fight against Covid-19.”
“Together we can make a difference and together, we can fight this battle against Covid,” said Pereira.
