Entry of private and public passenger vehicles from Goa to Belagavi and other parts of Karnataka will be banned as Karnataka has imposed a 15-day total lockdown in the state from May 10 to May 24.
According to an order issued by Karnataka Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar, the movement of vehicles transporting vegetables, fish and other essential goods between Karnataka and Goa has, however, been exempted from the ban.
According to the order issued late Friday evening, except for the movement of trains, flights and transport vehicles carrying necessary goods and commodities, the entry and movement of private vehicles have been banned.
“Taxis including auto-rickshaws and services of cab aggregators will be prohibited, except when hired for emergency,” the order says.
Except for takeaways and essential services which will be open from 6 am to 10 am, the lockdown will be imposed strictly, authorities have stated.
With 48,781 Covid positive cases and 592 cases reported on Friday, Karnataka has reported a staggering total of 5,36,641 active Covid cases till Friday, with 17,804 deaths reported till date.
Amid mounting pressure from all quarters, Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa on Friday hinted at a complete shutdown in the state amid heavily surging cases.
“As people are not following Covid protocols, it might be inevitable to go in for a complete lockdown in Karnataka. We will decide in two days,” Yediyurappa had stated on Friday morning.
