Justice Ambadas Joshi, retired judge from Bombay High Court took oath as the new Goa Lokayukta on Friday.
Maharashtra and Goa Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari virtually administered the oath of office to Justice Joshi from Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.
Joshi's appointment to the post was cleared by the State government last month after the term of previous Lokayukta P K Misra had ended in September 2020.
The former judge Bombay High Court and a well-known civil practitioner at Bombay High Court bench Aurangabad, Joshi had joined the legal profession in October 1979 after getting Advocate Sanad from Bar Council of Maharashtra, and after completing his degree in Law.
As an advocate, he worked mainly in Thane District and dealt with Civil, Criminal and Motor Accident Claim matters. Joshi was appointed as special Public Prosecutor for conducting the prosecution on behalf of State Government in the Sessions matters before the District and Sessions Court, Thane.
He was selected as a Judge, City Civil and Sessions Court, Mumbai too. During his judicial career he worked on the Civil side as well as Criminal side.
Joshi worked in various capacities -- from a Special Judge under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985(NDPS) and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for taking up the matters investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
He was appointed as Registrar, Information Technology, in the Registry of High Court Bombay and dealt with the overall Computerisation Project within the State of Maharashtra.
