Stating that the present Covid situation in the State is grim, NCP State President Jose Philip D’Souza alleged that the present scenario was a result of collective irresponsibility by the ruling party MLAs under the leadership of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
"The focus should be to reduce the increasing death rates. The State government should stop all its other expenditure at the moment and focus all its resources on tackling and bringing the current Covid situation under control,” said D’Souza.
“In order to curb rising cases, the BJP government should make vaccination compulsory with exception of people under 18 years and needs to carry an aggressive drive to ensure the majority of the population is vaccinated within a stipulated time.”
He also felt that the cost of testing has to be brought down and tests have to be ramped up and expedited.
“A long term and effective solution to tackle the spiralling pandemic situation would be in procuring new hospital beds, ICU beds, ventilators, adequate oxygen supply and availability of life-saving drugs along with sourcing more medical staff and doctors.”
He also sought to blame the policies of the central BJP government for the Covid crisis across the country.
“Why has the central government not opened up to other vaccine manufacturers which have been already tried and tested in other countries instead of allowing only two companies to operate in India?”
“Why are more testing labs not allowed and why has this been restricted to only a few players and selected companies,” asked D’Souza.
