Panaji Police on Wednesday continued to grope in the dark with no crucial leads emerging in connection with the case of theft of around Rs 50 lakh worth of gold and diamond ornaments and cash amount of Rs 26,000 from a well-guarded residence in Dona Paula on the intervening night of April 17 and 18.
Upon the complaint of one Mukesh Gulati, resident of D-8, Ocean Park, Dona Paula, Panaji Police had registered an FIR under Section 457 (lurking house-trespass or house) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of IPC.
In his complaint, Gulati stated that the offence took place at his house at around 4.30 am on the intervening night of April 17 and 18 while all members of the household were fast asleep.
Sources confirmed that Panaji police are in possession of CCTV footage from the house, which shows vague images of several masked men entering and going about the house at around this time.
It is believed that the thieves gained entry into the house through the glass door of the balcony.
As many as nine men including security guards, a gardener and a driver and five maids were brought in for questioning at Panaji Town Police Station on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.
However, sources revealed that not much information could be obtained from these individuals as they repeatedly stated that they were not in the know of how the crime could have occurred.
Police continue to be tight-lipped about the details of the crime.
