Donated 100 sq mtrs land for statue installation: Owner

MARGAO
Land owner, Sartaj Makandar, a resident of Housing Board, Gogol has said he has donated the piece of land from his property admeasuring 100 sq mtrs after the Shiv Premis made a request for a hilly portion of his property to install the statue of Shivaji Maharaj.

When The Goan on Tuesday asked Makandar to shed light on his decision to donate the hilly portion of his property for the statue, he said the Shiv Premis, who have been his friends over the years, had asked the hilly portion of the land to install the statue.

He sought to refute reports doing in certain quarters that the entire episode of the installation of Shivaji statue was an attempt to develop his property admeasuring around 20,000 sq mtrs with a motorable road. “We bought the property years ago, but had not been developed till date. It is not true that we have already allotted plots without any sub-division since there is no road access. When the Shiv Premis, our friends from the Housing Board, approached me to issue NOC for 100 sq mtrs to install the statue, I gave them the necessary permission. Some people are trying to link the episode to land development. It is not true. We will soon place the records before the public,” Makandar added.
