FIR lodged against 20 Areal locals, others for unlawful assembly, rioting and causing hurt

MARGAO
A day after the villagers came face-to-face with Social Minister Subhash Phal Dessai and the police after the inauguration of Shivaji statue, the Maina-Curtorim police have registered a case against 20 villagers and others for unlawful assembly, rioting and causing hurt to the policemen.

The complaint has been filed by the police and comes against the backdrop of the fact that Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai has stated on Monday that he would not file any police complaint on the attack against him at Areal.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Santosh Desai informed that the FIR has been registered by the State against 20 known persons, besides others for rioting, unlawful assembly and causing hurt to the policemen. “Our policemen were hurt in the incident when the people attacked the Minister at Areal. We have registered offence against the 20 known persons, besides others,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police maintained strict vigil at the site where the statue of Shivaji Maharaj has been installed on Monday in controversial circumstances.

Police were requisitioned from the neighbouring police stations of Colva, Cuncolim, Fatorda and Margao for deployment at Areal village.
