Affirming that Lavu Mamledar would be the MGP candidate from Ponda constituency, Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Thursday appealed to people not to support candidates with dubious background.
“Lavu Mamledar is educated and has a good background. You should carefully consider what type of MLA you need for Ponda,” said Dhavalikar, while hinting at allegations of extortion levelled against some politicians in Ponda.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of new Ponda RTO office at KTC bus stand at Ponda.
The office of the Assistant Director of Transport of Ponda was shifted in new premises near KTC bus stand at Ponda. The new office is about 600 metres away from the old office.
Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar, Bandora Sarpanch Nayan Naik, Transport Director Sunil Masurkar, ZP member Chitra Phadate, Deputy Director Administration Amul Gaonkar, assistant Director of Transport Sandeep Desai and others were present.
Explaining the delay in the project, Dhavalikar said a person had filed a complaint with the Archeology Department, claiming that the area fell within 100 mtrs of the historic Safa Masjid. “But we won the battle and the building has become reality,” he said.
“I am committed to give better facilities to the public, but few people try to create hurdles for their vested interest. This should not happen. We do not indulge in such politics that would hamper development,” he added.
Dhavalikar also hit out at some councillors of Ponda Municipal Council for creating hurdles in the development of Ponda.
Mamledar expressed happiness that the RTO office has been shifted from rented premises to its own premises. “This space here will help everyone to carry out their work smoothly,” he said.
