Don’t halt cross-border traffic: Centre

Pointing to reports that restrictions are being imposed at local level on inter-state and intra-state movement of goods and services in violation of the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has written to all States directing them to ensure that such movement is not hindered.

In its order containing guidelines for “Unlock-3” dated July 29 and applicable countrywide till August 31, the MHA clearly stated that “there shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods. No separate permission, approval, e-permit will be required for such movements.” The said guideline also refers to movement of persons and goods for cross land border trade under treaties with neighbouring countries.

In a letter addressed to Chief Secretaries of all Indian states, Bhalla sought to draw their attention to the fact that such local level restrictions imposed by states or districts are creating problems and are impacting the supply chain resulting in disruption of economic activities and employment as well as supply of goods and services.
