PANAJI

True to his ‘Dr Asthana’ character in Bollywood blockbuster ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S’ Boman Irani brought smiles to the faces of a select audience at a city starred hotel on Thursday with a stirring narration conversation mostly centered around the actor’s own life journey.

In his natural, humourous yet strong narrative style, Irani spoke of his life and struggle in his childhood since being born in an impoverished Mumbai Parsi-family which had no surviving

male member.

“I was a duffer (slow learner) in my childhood,” Irani said, and narrated how his mother and his school principal Fr Mavlin helped him overcome his feeble speech and shyness.

A popular Bollywood actor, known for his versatility and brilliant performances in ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S’, ‘Khosla Ka Ghosla’ and ‘3 Idiots’, Irani said: “Noticing my inclination for acting my mom encouraged me to watch and study movies and also sent me to a speech therapist.”

He encouraged parents in his audience to push their kids to excel in the field of their liking instead of insisting that they score 95 per

cent marks.

“Never forget your roots and do not judge people too early,” he said, and narrated his experience in his first job as a steward in a

starred hotel.

Irani also narrated how he left his comfort zone with a new challenge as a photographer, shifting from a small business he set up of producing and selling wafers.

“Just make the best from what you have, don’t grumble about what you don’t,” the actor explained while narrating his struggle as a photographer.

“Don’t look at other guys. Do your best and don’t think about money. Miracles happen,” Irani said recalling the “dollars” he earned for just three photographs of a boxing match.

At a later stage in life, Irani revealed more struggles, including his wife pledging her jewellery to overcome a financial crisis.”I fall, I stand up, again fall and rise.... that’s my life,” said Irani.

Irani also said he gave it his all at every small job that came his way in his life.

“Nothing is too small. If you put your name to it, you do exciting things,” said Irani.

Aptly, he wound up his conversation for the evening by singing Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”.
