The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has launched a massive drain cleaning and desilting exercise at the PDA mega retail market ahead of the monsoons.
This is the second consecutive year that the PDA has embarked on the exercise to desilt the network of drains around the fish market, vegetable market and around the meat stalls in the mega complex.
Incidentally, heavy deposits of silt in the drains have come to light again, including waste.
PDA sources informed that the exercise will help stop the overflowing drains in the market complex and ensure smooth flow of water into the drain network.
A PDA official informed that the workers are presently on the job to desilt and clear the drains of the waste and silt around the meat stalls. In fact, the workers had to content with filth and stink as they went about cleaning the drains.
