Addressing the media, Sarpanch Bernard Rebello said the panchayat has adopted an unanimous resolution opposing the nationalisation of Goan rivers, saying any such step will take away the rights of the people to these natural resources.
He said the rights of fishermen will be at stake if the rivers are allowed to be nationalised, while demanding immediate denationalisation of the rivers.
On the Betul port and coal hub, the Sarpanch wondered why the government is in a tearing hurry to set up the port at Betul when the local stakeholders, including the traditional fishermen, are opposed to such a move.
“We request the government to respect the sentiments of the local populace and drop the proposed minor port at Betul and
the coal hub at the MPT,” Rebello added.
On the CCTV surveillance cameras, the Sarpanch told the media that the cameras will bring in transparency in the panchayat administration and also protect
the documents housed inside the premises.
“We do not know why the previous dispensation dilly-dallied on the installation of the cameras when the Zilla Panchayat had offered the facility to the panchayat body,” he said.
