Blame it on criminal negligence or otherwise, water went waste in the commercial capital throughout Sunday after workers engaged by a contractor to lay fibre cables damaged water pipeline supplying water to households along the road from Tourist hostel to Virginkar petrol pump.
What has left people agitated was the manner in which the labourers engaged about the drilling work to lay the cables.
Though the drilling left the water pipeline damaged, with water gushing out from the damaged line, the workers went ahead with the work, leaving the entire line damaged.
Water gushing out of the damaged line was seen flowing on the road towards the Margao railway station, indicating that thousands of litres of water must have gone waste due to the negligence.
It was only when some locals questioned about the damage caused to the water line, the workers stopped the work, but not before major damage was already done.
To a question, the workers claimed that the plan of the area handed over to them did not point to the undergone line beneath the surface.
Given that it was a holiday on Sunday, PWD workers could not make their presence felt, resulting in the water going waste till Sunday evening.
