PANAJI: Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued 24 fishermen in two separate rescue operations off Colva and Benaulim beaches on Tuesday after fishing canoes capsized in rough sea conditions during the monsoon.
In the first incident, a fishing canoe carrying 15 fishermen overturned off Colva beach on Tuesday afternoon. Drishti Marine immediately launched a rescue operation, deploying lifesavers and jet skis to reach the stranded fishermen.
Lifesavers Paresh Gaude, Sachin Sukate, Deepak Trikiy, Vasudev Gaonkar and Shubham Keluskar, assisted by jet ski operators Megharaj Juvatkar and Roshan Patil, successfully rescued all 15 fishermen. All were brought safely to shore without any injuries.
Around the same time, another fishing canoe carrying nine fishermen capsized off Benaulim beach. Lifesavers Sudarshan, Rajendra Naik and Ankur Velip, along with jet ski operators Siddhesh Gaonkar and Pankaj, responded swiftly to the emergency. Five fishermen were rescued by the team, while the remaining four managed to reach safety on their own. No injuries were reported.
Drishti Marine said the coordinated rescue efforts ensured everyone involved in both incidents was brought to safety despite the rough sea conditions.
The agency reiterated that sea conditions along Goa's coastline remain dangerous during the monsoon due to rough waters and strong winds. Swimming is prohibited at Goa's beaches during this period.
To strengthen emergency response during the monsoon, Drishti Marine has deployed more than 480 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies in the state to respond to emergencies and assist visitors.
