Over the weekend, Drishti Marine personnel successfully traced seven missing children, bringing the total number of children reunited with their families on Goa’s beaches to 58 since January 2024.
The damp weather also saw three rescue operations, including a triple rescue at Palolem beach, and three incidents requiring first aid for various injuries.
At Calangute beach, lifesavers reunited a three-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy, both from Karnataka, with their families after finding them unattended.
On Colva beach, an eight-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl from Quepem were found distressed. Lifesavers spent nearly an hour searching for their parents before reuniting the children with their families through proper identification protocol by the police.
A seven-year-old child was found unattended at Miramar Beach following a sudden rainfall. A tourist reported the incident to Drishti Marine lifesavers, who reunited the child with her parents.
At Palolem beach, a three-year-old Goan boy in distress was reunited with his mother after lifesavers made announcements from their patrol vehicle and lifeguard tower.
On Baga beach, a man from Kerala reported his daughter missing. After an extensive search, she was located nearly two kilometres away and reunited with her father.
In addition to these incidents, three rescue operations were carried out. At Palolem beach, three women from Karnataka, all college students aged 20, were rescued from a rip current by lifesavers using a surfboard and jet ski. They were taken to a local hospital and later discharged.
A 29-year-old man from Karnataka faced a kayak leak at Palolem beach. Lifesaver Parshuram Tari brought him to shore using a jet ski.
At Dudhsagar, a man from Hyderabad and his three-year-old daughter slipped into the water. Lifesaver Vithal Masurkar rescued the drowning child, while the father, wearing a lifejacket, managed to save himself.
There were also three first-aid incidents reported. A 19-year-old from Kudal faced breathing difficulties after someone jumped on her chest while swimming at Mandrem Beach. She was administered oxygen and taken to the hospital.
Shashikant Jadhav, a lifesaver and operations manager, was bitten by a stray dog on Mandrem Beach and received necessary injections at the hospital.
A man from Mangalore sustained a minor head injury after hitting a stationary boat while swimming. He received first aid at the lifeguard tower.
