A 58-year-old truck driver Rajan Nair ended his life by setting himself on fire at Zuarinagar on Sunday evening.
According to a source, Nair, who hails from Ratnagiri, was working as a driver for a private company. He left behind a suicide note stating that he was not paid his salary.
He also wrote on his truck with a black sketch pen, “No salaries for last few months, How to live.” The writings on the truck had today’s (Sunday) date and his signature.
The truck was stationed near Zuarinagar for the last few months. Nair had nothing to eat and there was no money. The supervisor of the company wouldn’t answer his calls. “Finally, frustrated with the situation, the deceased may have taken the extreme step. The company in which the deceased worked was supplying pipes to an establishment in Goa,” the source said.
Verna police rushed to the site and conducted a panchanama. They registered a case of unnatural death.
