In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Anjuna Police on Friday arrested an interstate drug peddler during a well-coordinated raid conducted near the football ground at Chivar, Vagator.
The accused, identified as Ashish Punjabi (39), a resident of Acron Complex, Candolim, and a native of Kandivali (E), Mumbai, was found in possession of LSD papers valued at approximately Rs 2,20,000.
The raid was part of a meticulously planned operation by the Anjuna Police Station staff.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered under Section 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The accused has been remanded to five days of police custody for further investigation.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Mapusa SDPO, Ashish Shirodkar, and Akshat Kaushal (IPS), Superintendent of Police (North), Porvorim.
Police have confirmed that further investigations are underway.
