Dual nationality: Police file cases against Aires

Acting on a complaint filed by Calvert Gonsalves, the Old Goa Police on Friday registered cases against Adv Aires Rodrigues in connection with accusations of holding dual nationality.

In his complaint, Calvert Gonsalves had stated that Adv Rodrigues is a Portuguese national and also holds an Indian passport.

The complaint further stated that Adv Rodrigues holds a voter ID card and he had also contested the CCP elections, despite being a Portuguese national, in contravention of the laws in force.

Further, the complaint stated that Adv Rodrigues has falsely filed an affidavit in the court stating that he is an Indian national and that, he also holds a PAN card.

Old Goa Police have registered cases under Sections 177, 181, 419, 420 of IPC, Section 14 of Foreigners Act, Sections 4 & 5 of Foreigners Registration Act, Section 12 of Passport Act and Public Representation Act.

NEW DELHIThe Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a fresh PIL seeking a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in iron ore mining in Goa, saying it has already been hearing pleas on similar issues.
