Pernem Deputy Collector Chandrakant Shetkar has directed the talathi of Morjim Panchayat to prepare a detailed report on illegal construction activity on sand dunes at Vithaldas wada in Morjim.
According to reports, construction activity has been noticed on sand dunes which have been levelled within 25 metre from the High Tide Line.
“I will send this report to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA),” informed Shetkar.
While locals have demanded action against those involved in levelling the sand dunes, there have been complaints that while action is taken against illegal construction activity of locals, similar activity by non-Goans is largely left
untouched.
Others have, however, complained that locals are also engaged in illegal construction but the local panchayat is reluctant to any action against them for fear losing their vote bank.
