After having failed to find sanitisation workers, Bogmalo Dy Sarpanch and Panch member took up sanitization on their own and sanitized the houses of Covid patients.
Sources added that there had been rising cases of Covid in Bogmalo and the panch member requested the Dy Sarpanch to get the area sanitized.
"After the sanitizing agency was not available, the Dy Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale arranged a pump and sanitizing liquid and along with panch member Arun Naik went house to house sanitizing the area. They had no workers nor staff and both of them wearing PPE Kits personally took the sanitizing machines and pump and sanitized the houses of Covid patients in the area. Hats off to their dedication because despite all the risks and without any support, both the elected members sanitized the houses in the area," said the source.
Dy Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale said that the step was taken after a lot of Covid cases were found in the area.
"In the last few days, there have been many cases in ward no 7 of the Chicalim Bogmalo Panchayat. We then decided to take up sanitization drive immediately so that we don't get more Covid cases from the area as we have had more than 30 cases reported from here. Panch Arun Naik had been trying for the last few days to start the sanitization drive in the ward but we did not get the required people. Finally we both decided to do it ourselves and arranged the machines and sanitized the houses of Covid patients. We want people to be safe and our challenge is to make the cases Zero in this ward," said Mahale.
Meanwhile Panch Member Arun Naik appealed to the people not to rush to the essential stores that are open during the state curfew.
"We had a number of cases in my ward that was creating panic among the residents and though we arranged doctors and medications, I felt that there must be a sanitization drive as well. Since we could not get sanitisation workers on time, we did it ourselves and people are happy. I only appeal to the people not to crowd essential stores that are open during the state curfew because cases could rise again due to crowding, "said Naik.
