Expressing satisfaction on having done something for the people of Marlim-Tirval, Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes said the government has been fulfilling basic needs of the residents.
Fernandes was addressing a gathering after launching the hotmixing of the Marlim-Tirval road in Canacona.
The issues confronting the Marlim-Tirval residents had sprung into limelight and had even gained national attention when all residents had boycotted the last Lok Sabha elections in protest, after accusing the government of failing to provide them with basic needs of road, water and proper electricity.
The remote locality of Marlim, which has a substantial number of residents, comes under the jurisdiction of Poinguinim panchayat but falls under the purview of Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, thereby restricting development works.
“Almost two decades ago, I managed to get a solar panel system to provide electricity to the locality for the first time. This has been upgraded into an overhead power supply.”
“Roadworks were taken up a few months ago, besides repairs and renovation of the Marlim bridge. Laying of the water pipeline has also been completed. With this, I have fulfilled all demands of residents in Marlim,” Fernandes added.
Fernandes also informed residents that their internal road from the bridge has also been approved along with road in neighbouring Asthgal at a cost of Rs 49 lakh and said, the project would also be completed soon.
