The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has sanctioned funds worth Rs 53 crore for the State’s education sector under four different schemes for the academic year 2016-17, with the maximum amount of Rs 30 crore being approved for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
While an amount of Rs 9 crore has been sanctioned under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the Mid-day meal scheme has got Rs 12 crore and Training Programme for Educational Administrators, Head Teachers, etc Rs 2 crore approximately.
A team of the Directorate of Education including Director Gajanan Bhat, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan State Project Director Anil Powar, Deputy Director of Education Santosh Patil and Assistant Director of Education (Vocational) Ishwar Patil and other officials held a meeting with MHRD officials and presented the Annual Work Plan and Budget Summary for the year 2016-17 under all the four schemes.
Speaking to The Goan, Education Director Gajanan Bhat said, “While the total recurring amount which was proposed under RMSA scheme has been sanctioned, the non-recurring amount sanctioned is comparatively less as the State was given Rs 3 crore last year.”
Moreover, the State has got 100 per cent sanction under the Mid-day Meal scheme.
“We have been sanctioned Rs 12 crore, the total amount which we had asked for the academic year 2016-17”, he said.
Under this scheme, all the self-help groups (SHGs) will be provided with kitchen equipment. Nonetheless, the government will also provide containers aiming at providing hot cooked food to the children.
