Eight held for blocking ore transportation

Quepem police on Monday booked eight villagers from Caurem on charges of allegedly blocking transportation of e-auctioned ore at Caurem mine.

Speaking to The Goan, Quepem Police Inspector Pravin Gawas Dessai said about eight locals gathered at the Caurem mine on Monday morning and blocked the transportation of e-auctioned ore. After being informed about the incident, Gawas along with his personnel rushed to the spot and the eight locals were brought to the Quepem police station.
The PI informed the eight were booked under Sections 341, 143, 147 read with 149 of Indian Penal Code.

Shigmo celebration: snub for Mamledar

In a major snub to Ponda’s MGP MLA Lavu Mamledar, the tourism department has deleted the names of two aides of Mamledar from the Shigmotsav committee at Ponda and has, instead, replaced them with two BJP-backed councillors.

PONDA The Ponda Shigmotsav will be celebrated on March 24.  The tourism department deleted the names of two persons closely associated to MLA Mamledar and faxed the copy of the Shigmotsav committee to Ponda Municipal Council.
