A senior citizen was killed in a tragic road accident involving a rented tourist jeep and a car in Assagao on Monday, police said.

According to preliminary information, the accident occurred when a rented jeep carrying tourists, allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, rammed into a car in which the elderly man was travelling.

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the senior citizen critically injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by locals and emergency services but was declared dead on arrival.

The car was also occupied by a woman and a five-month-old baby at the time of the accident, but they are reportedly safe.

Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver of the rented jeep. The vehicle has been seized, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the collision.
