Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister and BJP leader from Karnataka, Anant Kumar, called upon the people of Mapusa to come out in large numbers on election day to give Deputy Chief Minister and Mapusa MLA Francis D'Souza a historic victory.

“Mapusa has the tradition of clocking 70 percent voting. This time, come out and increase the voting to 85 percent to elect D’Souza with a huge margin,” said Kumar, who is also Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertillisers.

He said in this election it was a no contest in Mapusa and in Goa as the MLA was sure to win in his hometown and BJP was sure to cruise home in the State elections.

The union minister was addressing a corner meeting at Ekta Nagar, Mapusa on Tuesday evening, in the presence of D'Souza and other leaders.

“Modi government will give any amount of funds to carry forward the development works launched in the State. To give infrastructure development the required push, elect the BJP by 2/3rd majority in this election,” Kumar said.

Speaking further, Kumar complimented the chief minister and his cabinet for giving a big fillip to infrastructure development in the State.

“Construction of Mopa airport, two bridges on Mandovi and Zuari rivers, four and six-laning of roads has been taken up in a big way, which needs to be accomplished,” he said appealing for mandate for BJP.

He said South Goa had Dabolim airport and made a case that North Goa should also get an airport at Mopa.

“Mopa will be a world class airport which will have 360 degree connectivity to every part of the world,” he said.

In the beginning, the union minister began his address in Konkani by saying “mhojea mogachea Mhapshekarano, namaskar.”

At the fag end of his speech, the minister addressed the gathering in Kanada for the benefit of the sizeable number of Kanada-speaking people at the meeting.

Earlier, Francis D'Souza, Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sandeep Falari and others spoke at the meeting.
