Electrical Inspector under State govt, not under Power Dept, says CEE

MARGAO

The office of Chief Electrical Engineer has pointed out that the office of the Electrical Inspector is an independent body falling directly under the purview of State government and not under the jurisdiction of the Electricity Department.

The CEE’s office further pointed out that under Rule 3 (1) of the Intimation of Accidents (Form and Time of Service of Notice) Rules, 2005 made under clause (w) of sub- section (2) of Section 176 of the electricity Act, 2003, the Department is bound to intimate the inspector in the event of an electrical accident involving humans or animals.

The CEE’s office was reacting to a news item over the delay by theinspector to conduct a probe into the causes behind the death of a migrant labourer at Margao due to electrocution.

Though the Power Department had asked the inspector to conduct the probe into the causes behind the electrocution soon after the incident, a senior power official had pointed out recently that the probe is yet to take off till date.
