As Goa police are busy trouble-shooting fresh controversies it has been dragged into, there’s another development - a constable has been rewarded for saving the life of a woman with suicidal tendencies while another faces suspension for allegedly colluding with criminals to loot businessmen.
PC Ramesh Parab was on Thursday felicitated by Director General of Police Jaspal Singh for his courageous act in rescuing a 36-year-old woman who was on the brink of ending her life by jumping off the Ozarim-Pirna Bridge this Monday.
Despite being off duty, Parab responded to a call from Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Nidhin Valsan, who had directed all on and off-duty personnel to join the search for the woman. Acting swiftly, the team managed to locate and save her within just one hour of receiving the alert.
On the flip, PC Vikas Kaushik has been suspended on charges of allegedly extorting money from businessmen through blackmail. Previously transferred from South Goa to the GRP, the suspension order came after AAP MLA Venzy Veigas raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly, demanding appropriate action.
The DGP issued a suspension order for PC Vikas Kaushik, effectively placing him under suspension pending enquiries. “PC Vikas Kaushik of GRP ‘B’ Coy is placed under suspension with immediate effect pending enquiries...He shall report to the GRP,” the order stated.
