Goa recorded 9,157 power supply interruptions between April 2024 and March 2026, affecting more than 10 lakh consumers across the State, highlighting growing stress on the electricity distribution network amid a consistently rising demand.
Official data from the power sector shows that the State witnessed an average of more than 12 power outages every day during the two-year period. Consumers across several regions faced one or more instances of supply disruption in a day, with a total of 10,11,483 consumers impacted.
The outages included both technical breakdowns and planned shutdowns undertaken for maintenance and repair works.
Among the ten electricity divisions, Curchorem reported the highest number of outages -- a total of 3,052 power interruptions were recorded there over the two years, affecting more than 82,000 consumers.
Ponda division ranked second with 2,353 outages. These disruptions affected nearly 1.4 lakh Ponda division consumers, one of the highest consumer impact figures recorded during the period.
Power interruptions were also reported in Margao, Mapusa, Bicholim and Vasco divisions, though the number of affected consumers in these areas was comparatively lower.
The cumulative duration of outages across various divisions reached nearly 32,000 hours over the two-year period, indicating the scale of the challenge faced by the electricity distribution network.
Officials attributed most of these disruptions to feeder tripping and other feeder-related faults. Problems in transformers also contributed to supply interruptions.
In many cases, power was deliberately shut down as part of scheduled maintenance and infrastructure repair works.
Weather-related disturbances and overloading of the network were among the other major causes cited for the outages.
The figures come at a time when power demand in Goa has been steadily rising over the years and underscore the need for strengthening distribution infrastructure and improving reliability of the system.
