Electricity dept comes under fire at Telaulim

MARGAO

The electricity department came under fire at the gram sabha meeting of the Telaulim panchayat on Sunday.

At the meeting chaired by sarpanch Leena Coutinho, members bitterly complained of the power issues plaguing the village with no solution forthcoming from the Power department officials.

Members pointed out that street lights have not been working in many places, but the department has not fixed the issue to date.

They pointed out that Telaulim has been witnessing frequent power outages, demanding to know the efficacy of the shutdowns arranged by the department before the onset of monsoons.

Members pointed out that trees and branches leaning precariously on the roads have not been trimmed nor cut down before the monsoons.

The members have told the panchayat to send a detailed note to the Power department.

The issue of illegal business trades also came up for discussion. After much discussion, the meeting decided to survey the business establishments operating in the village without the mandatory panchayat licence before imposing a penalty. Members pointed out that no business activity should be permitted in the future in residential areas sans the conversion of the area for commercial use.
