In an interesting development, the Raia gram sabha on Sunday prohibited video filming of the meeting proceedings carried out by a group of persons.
When the adjourned gram sabha chaired by sarpanch Judas Quadros resumed at the panchayat ghar on Sunday, members pointed out that a group of persons were recording the proceedings.
Taking cognisance of the situation, the sarpanch ordered all those video-filming the proceedings to put off their cameras, saying only the panchayat is authorised to video-film the gram sabha proceedings.
Members later told the media that the gram sabha has adopted a resolution to prohibit any person from recording the gram sabha proceedings, saying only the panchayat and the media have the right to record.
Meanwhile, the congratulatory motion tabled at the gram sabha to congratulate Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho for his announcement to appoint panchayat secretaries instead of gram sevaks did not find favour with the panchayat.
Sarpanch Judas later clarified that the motion was not accepted for the simple reason that the panchayat would adopt the congratulatory motion once the Panchayat Minister’s decision comes into force.
