MARGAO
Electrification of the Konkan Railway route is in full swing to meet the May 2021 deadline to complete the ongoing work along the entire 766-km route.
Work on the electrification project is being executed round-the-clock by the contractors in order to meet the May 2021 deadline set by the Railways.
A dedicated van carrying men and machinery has been deployed along the Margao stretch of the railway in the last two days to connect the cables to the electric poles which were installed late last year. That the railway van was on the job till late night indicates that the Konkan Railway has decided to get the entire line electrified by May.
KRC General Manager Public Relations, Baban Ghatge, said electrification work is in full progress all along the entire 766-km route. “We have set a deadline to complete the ongoing electrification work by May this year. We are on the right track and expect to commission the project by May 2021,” Ghatge added.
He pointed out that the electrification of the Konkan Railway line will have a double benefit, one that will control pollution and save energy. “We are hopeful of commissioning the power project by May 2021,” he added.
