Family to move court for probe into death of kin

PANAJI
The family of deceased fisherman Ravi Naik, whose body was found hanging from a tree in 2019, has decided to approach the court as they

are not satisfied with the police probe.

It may be recalled that the body of Naik was found hanging on a tree near Datteshwar Colony in the Old Goa police jurisdiction. The police at that time had registered the death as an unnatural one and closed the probe noting that it was an incident of suicide.

After the postmortem, the police handed over the body to the relatives after which it was cremated in Ravi’s native, Karnataka.

Wife of Ravi had alleged that his death was not a suicide but a murder.

She raised suspicion about Ravi’s two friends and demanded an inquiry. However, police did not inquire into this angle.

The wife also wrote to the Director-General of Police in November 2020 to probe the matter. She also cited some evidence about the involvement of her husband’s friends.

She has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. But till date there has been no action from the police. Ravi’s wife has now decided to approach the court to seek justice in the matter.
