PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday urged potential investors keen on sinking capital in the upcoming electronic city in Tuem to collaborate with technical educational institutions in the state to make Goan youngsters job-ready before they pass out of colleges.
Sawant made the statement at an investor conference held in Panaji, amid the constant baiting of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party by its political opponent, the Aam Aadmi Party over the issue of unemployment and failure to create jobs for the local youth in the private sector.
"I welcome you to collaborate with the engineering colleges, polytechnic, IIT college and train students and enhance the syllabus, internships project works. This will make youth ready for the industry much before they pass out from colleges. My government will support investment for ease of doing business. I will be personally monitoring the development of infrastructure at Tuem," Sawant said.
The Chief Minister also said that the Tuem electronic city will be up and running by March 2022 and that 30 investors, who were present at the conference, had already expressed willingness to invest in Goa.
"I am sure that this project will contribute in a big way towards creating jobs for the Goan youth and also for self-employment opportunities for the youth in Goa," Sawant said.
"Setting up a plant in Goa has many advantages. Apart from natural beauty and friendly people, we have institutions like IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), NIT (National Institute of Technology), GEC (Goa Engineering College), GIM (Goa Institute of Management), different engineering and polytechnic colleges in Goa which produce quality talent pool," Sawant said, adding that Goa also has a high literacy rate, excellent work-life balance and good health and educational infrastructure.
"We know we are a little late for this project due to various reasons, but now already Jennifer Monserrate (IT Minister) and the entire team have taken up the project and they are speeding up with your support," Sawant said.
"By March 2022, all infrastructure, including road, electricity, internet connectivity and water supply will be cleared," the Chief Minister said.
