Undeterred by the slur of nepotism in recruitment by cornering an overwhelming majority of jobs for his constituents, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, on Thursday took to social-networking website Facebook to announce a proposal to create more posts to upgrade the Emergency Medicine Department in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Coincidentally, Rane's announcement comes a day after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's taunt seemingly aimed at him that he (Sawant) unlike others, is not in the habit of cornering jobs for constituents.
Rane's announcement of more jobs to be created at GMC came after an impromptu meeting he had with the GMC Dean, Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Health Secretary and other officials.
"We shall be creating additional posts for the department, a note has already been put up to the government in this regard," Rane wrote in his FB post.
He said, the 'Emergency Medicine' department will be made state-of-the-art and a "unique model" which can be showcased to the rest of India.
"Saving lives have been our motto since the beginning and we will further strengthen the department and subsequently replicate this at South Goa District Hospital and in Pernem," the health minister further claimed in his FB post.
In the previous term, Rane was in the eye of a storm over recruitment in regular LDC jobs at the GMCH, wherein candidates hailing from the two Sattari constituencies of Valpoi and Poriem had hogged 85 of the 105 posts.
The recruitment process has since been challenged before the Bombay High Court at Goa.
