PANAJI: Saying that an emergency like situation prevails in the state which is not of the government making, Goa Forward Chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai has said that he would speak to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar over the phone on Monday, saying the Cabinet cannot be oblivious to the mining crisis looming large over the state.
“I have already sent a message to the Chief Minster and I hope to communicate with him on Monday. Since we are all members of the Cabinet, which is headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, we cannot be oblivious to the crisis looming over the state with just four days to go for the implementation of the Supreme Court order on ban on mining in the state,” the TCP Minister said on Sunday.
Sardesai further said he would also draw attention of the Chief Minster to the sentiments of the House, which had taken an unanimous resolution on the mining imbroglio,” he said, adding that he expects the Chief Minister to give some directions before the ban on mining operations comes into force from March 16.
“Goa is facing an emergency like situation, which is not of our making. The crisis staring at the state is a fall out of the Supreme Court judgement, which we respect,” he said. Sardesai added: “In the past, the Supreme Court had banned bars operating along the national and state highways and Goa had to face the music. Now, the SC order banning mining activities has thrown up an emergency like situation in the state. But, this situation is not of the government making,” he added.
He declined to comment on the repeated statements emanating from the alliance partner, MGP that
the party will support Manohar Parrikar as leader of the coalition and Sudin Dhavlikar and no one else. “I can only say that all members of the coalition partners should not make statements that only vitiates the atmosphere in the state,” he said. The Goa Forward party chief, however, said the party is prepared to fight the mid-term polls if the situation warrants.
