Stating that the State government is committed to develop all 40 constituencies, Water Resources Minister Vinod Paliencar said emphasis is being laid to boost agricultural production and to develop infrastructure required for agricultural activities.
He was speaking at Socorro after unveiling the plaque along with Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte for work to improve a Nullah in the presence of Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and panch members of Socorro panchayat. “The 780-mtr-long nullah, which is being constructed from Damian de Goa showroom to Vetal temple at a cost of Rs 2.85 crore, will not only prevent flooding of fields in the monsoon, but will also prevent damage to 80 houses in the area.”
“Further, this nullah will avoid of erosion of adjacent properties and will streamline the flow of water,” said Paliencar.
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte said the agriculture department has decided to lay stress on organic farming from next year and appealed to farmers of Socorro to adopt organic farming to increase the quality of their produce.
“A farmer’s market is being set up by the side of the Mapusa-Panjim highway at Guirim and some space will be reserved for farmers of Socorro to sell their produce,” said Khaunte.
Stating that unity among farmers is very important to get their grievances redressed, Khaunte advised members of the farmers club to attend their meetings regularly and discuss and present their problems to him to work out solutions.
Earlier, ZP member Vaishali Satardekar and Socorro Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarker also spoke on the occasion.
Deputy sarpanch Deepali Satardekar welcomed the gathering, while Gokuldas Gawde compered the programme and Panch Rajan Parsekar later proposed the vote of thanks.
