A 52-year-old employee of a factory at the Verna Industrial Estate was found dead after allegedly falling off the third floor of the company building on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Katari Srinivasu (52), a native of Andhra Pradesh and resident of Galloy, Nuvem. The incident came to light around 8.51 pm on November 2, when the Medical Officer of PHC Cansaulim informed Verna police that Srinivasu had been brought dead to the health centre following a fall from height at the factory.

A Verna police police visited PHC Cansaulim and conducted an inquest panchanama before shifting the body to South Goa District Hospital, Margao, for further medico-legal formalities.

Police subsequently visited the company premises and conducted a scene panchanama with the assistance of the Forensic Team from the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory (DFSL), Verna.

During the preliminary enquiry, police questioned the company's HR department. The enquiry revealed that Srinivasu was reportedly undergoing depression and mental stress following the death of a close relative.

Based on the preliminary findings, police suspect that Srinivasu may have died by suicide after jumping off the third floor of the building. However, further investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

Verna police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Prisly Carvalho of Verna police station under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao SDPO SP Gurudas Kadam.
