The iconic Margao Municipal garden will undergo a major transformation, with Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane sanctioning Rs 10 crore for its facelift.
While launching the glow animal illumination project at the Municipal garden on Tuesday, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat said work on the Rs 10-crore garden transformation project would be tendered in the coming days.
“The Urban Development Minister had submitted a project to the Centre to give a major facelift to the Margao Municipal garden. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the beautification work,” he told the media after launching the glow animal project.
The PWD Minister said the glow animal project would be synchronised with the Rs 10-crore project to ensure effective utilisation of taxpayers’ money.
Asked to elaborate on the features of the garden facelift project, Kamat said the government was currently giving the project its final touches. He added that the plan would be kept open for public inspection at the Margao Municipal building.
Meanwhile, Kamat also launched illumination projects at several locations in the city on Tuesday. Besides installing high-mast lamps at important traffic junctions and intersections, the project includes the illumination of grounds at two locations, including Sirvodem.
