Enough water in dams to last this summer: Palyekar

Water Resources Department Minister Vinod Palyekar on Tuesday cast aside apprehensions of water problems, saying Goa has enough water to last this summer.

Speaking to media persons, Palyekar said, “Goa has enough water storage to tackle the water shortage problem this summer. All the state’s dam levels are favorable and we are all set to tackle problems if at all they arise during the summer season.”   
He said that the water level at Selaulim was at 34.56 m, holding 10,409 Ha.m of water which is sufficient to provide water for almost 300 days, while Anjunem dam was at 81m (1,835 ha.m sufficient for 90 days). 
The Amthane dam level is at 47.28 m with 418 ha.m of water sufficient for 300 days, the Panchawadi dam level is at 22.41m with 224.44 ha.m sufficient for 150 days and Chapoli dam level at 32.68 m (587.50 ha.m of water sufficient for 525 days), the minisiter informed.   
Palyekar also said that he had had detailed discussions with officers of the department regarding their works and projects and stressed on transparency, punctuality and discipline. 
He said he has asked all the officers to instill discipline in their offices by installing biometric scanner, maintaining movement register and work diary. WRD chief engineer
